We spend loads of time and effort calibrating
our monitors to ensure our pictures are bright and colour
accurate. To help you view these images as we intend them
to be seen, please make sure your monitor hasn't got any
reflections on the screen from windows or lights. Adjust
the brightness and contrast controls on your monitor so
all tones from A to Z in the chart below are defined from
one and other.
Colour accuracy really needs specialist
software and hardware, and some monitors are not adjustable
at all. As a rough guide you can try the following if you're
into fiddling. Firstly it's vital to make sure your room is
lit by daylight and not a household bulb. Strong coloured
walls can also cause problems. You'll need a Kodak Colour
Control Patch which is available from most good photographic
shops, and your monitor's instruction book. Run your screen
saver for an hour to warm it up then set the white balance
(or colour temperature) setting to 6500 degrees Kelvin. Adjust
the red, green and blue colour controls until the colours
in the chart below are as close as possible to the Kodak patch
in your hand. Please note; all these adjustments must be made
to your monitor - not your computer.
